A quick riff after a busy Tuesday

Tuesday is my one day of the week that is focused on Zoom calls, with clients, potential new clients, strategic alliance partners and fellow professionals.

Always an opportunity to feel the pulse of dentistry.

From yesterday, some observations:

  • Sometimes, knowing that everyone else is overwhelmed as well, makes you feel better;

  • It's brilliant when I see a client finally get on top of the numbers and understand exactly what is making their business succeed or struggle - then I have to get them to do something about it;

  • Entrepreneurs cannot help themselves - when everything is working, they get bored and either allow what they have to fall apart (so that they can build it again) or look for a "new challenge" that then dilutes them. They can often end up with two (or more) mediocre businesses instead of one brilliant business;

  • I thought I'd stopped hearing this - "our accountant collects the bank statements and invoices in April each year, and we get a set of accounts about 6 months later." From a prospective client who is worried about declining cash flow;

  • I'm noticing a sudden increase in the number of associates approaching me with "can you have a look at this agent's prospectus and tell me whether I should buy this practice?"

  • And I'm worried about the number of times I'm advising them NOT to buy - wrong place, wrong people, wrong price. I feel like I'm the party-pooper - but I have to tell it how I see it.

Finally, last night our weekly client webinar - and we welcome Dr. Hannah Burrow, Co-Founder and CEO of Kiroku to show us her software and also give guidance on the emerging dangers of AI in dentistry and how to avoid potential problems.

I count myself lucky that The Extreme Business 100 is a community of like-minded Owners and Managers who allow me the privilege of moderating their communications and experiences.
