Given that I've been commenting a lot recently on the numbers no longer adding up in the business of dentistry...........
I'm wondering whether the innovators will start the process of disruption by introducing the rental model for self-employed clinicians?
Ashley and I recorded a super podcast last week, with a Principal in Ireland who has done this and shares with us the benefits (the podcast will be out next week).
As I listened to him, I was struck by the logic of the rental model - rather like a Regus-type serviced office, you pay me a day rate for the use of the surgery, the building and my people and support services.
My daily rental rate is set at my Operating Cost Per Surgery Per Day (OCPSPD) plus an acceptable profit margin.
What you, the self-employed clinician, gross - is your business. You pay your variable costs (lab, materials) and you pay for an extra support staff you require. You pay my rent.
Win:Win?
I know there are some examples of this out there - and we have all noticed this:
Perhaps it's time to explore this further.
