Recruitment in recovery

Good news - I believe that recruitment is in recovery.

In the last few weeks:

  • I have had the pleasure of second interviews (both Zoom and face to face) with candidates for Practice Manager, Business Manager, Marketing Manager and TCO. The quality of those applying has been excellent, with a higher than average number of candidates from outside of dentistry;

  • When I say outside of dentistry, notably hospitality, beauty and healthcare;

  • There are also disaffected former area managers falling out of dental corporates (some by choice, others by axe);

  • Equally, unhappy clinicians departing from those same corporates as wagons are circled;

  • Additionally, members of my own client community are advertising for support roles (FOH and Nursing) and reporting on dozens, literally dozens of applicants to choose from.

Rich pickings and a far cry from the "recruitment is impossible" of the last few years.

Of course, in the middle of this abundance, it is important to stick to your principles and look for Ideal Team Players.

Hungry, Humble and People-Smart (as we have been taught by Patrick Lencioni) - and I'm always looking for the X-Factor that singles an applicant out as exceptional.

In recent weeks, I have had the pleasure of helping to onboard some of the aforementioned Managers. Also to see clinicians thriving as they are trained, shadowed and mentored by Principals.

I genuinely feel the excitement and anticipation that these new team members create as they learn the ropes in the business of dentistry. It is exciting to be a part of that and to see people growing.

If you are not looking, you should be.

If you are not replacing, you should be.

You don't have to tolerate average or below - there are good people out there looking for work.
