THINKING BUSINESS

Time to stop clowning around

What it boils down to is that I have been in party mode since my 70th birthday last September.

It's been one excuse after another - birthdays, client conferences, family gatherings, Christmas and New Year, theatres and concerts, friends visiting - you name it.

Many of my historic good habits - notably regular exercise, have been replaced by bad habits - notably booze.

As the running shoes and the Wattbike have remained unused, the corkscrew has taken centre stage.

When Sheila Scott and I tackled The Hebridean Way last June, I was fit as a fiddle and around 11st 7lbs.

Now I'm unfit, 12 st and finally so sick of myself that I've decided to make the change.

So, after two consecutive weekends of entertainment, food and drink, this morning is Detox Day One.

I'll shortly be climbing onto the Wattbike for the first time since 2nd October 2023 (I can't even believe I'm typing that date).

No more booze - regular exercise - I want the old me back.

In the (frequently used by me) words of business author Harry Beckwith, "there is no performance without accountability and no accountability without measurement."

I'll be checking in with my progress and I want you to hold me accountable.

In around 90 days, Sheila and I will be travelling to the South of France, to meet with our friend Steve Turnock and ride The Alps.

I'd better get started.

You've got this - you're awesome and certainly becoming a living legend. Makes it real that we all fall off the circuit from time to time. You look great in anycase :)
