ZEST excitement, interest, energy and enthusiasm
I’m grateful to Marnie Winyard, Business Development Manager at Cheltenham Dental Spa and Implant Clinic
She used the word “zest” to describe the characteristics of the people who make things happen in every dental team and, in fact, in life.
A four-letter word that embraces everything we are looking for in the ideal team member, clinical or otherwise.
Having had the pleasure of meeting my fair share of zestful people, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no formula for this.
Perhaps it is an under-privileged ancestry or upbringing that lights a spark in an individual who wants to break free.
Perhaps a life-long quest to prove oneself to an uncaring father (Elton John spoke about this over the last few days).
Perhaps peer pressure, ethnicity, religion, geography, disability, bullying.
The list is a long one and every zestful person has their own story.
In choosing people we have to be mindful of that and also look for the clues.
I would suggest they are pretty easy to spot as the zestful person tends to light up a room when they enter it.
How do you attract them?
It’s a complete lottery.
You can’t win it if you’re not in it.
So you had better be attractive.
Thank you Ghaleb, Donna and Marnie for an outstanding day – I came away from my meeting with you energised and I’m excited about your bigger future; privileged to be continuing with you on the journey.
